Old McDonald Had a Farm Party

Happy Birthday, Cooper!

We recently celebrated my son's second birthday with a party at the farm. It was made complete with riding ponies, feeding bunnies, petting goats, a bounce house, and a rock climbing wall. All the kiddos had a blast! Since it was held outside we kept it really simple with pizza, cake, and cookies.

Restaurant Guide: Nashville, TN

I have had several requests in the last few weeks for a restaurant guide of some of my favorite cities to visit. Since Spring Break is less than a week away and that is the perfect time for travel, I figured I would have a mini series on some of our restaurant favorites.

Included in this guide will be mouth-watering photos that will make you want to lick your screen, items we've ordered, specials (if available), and tips for a successful dining experience. I cannot wait to share with you some of the fabulous restaurants we've dined at.

I recently went to Nashville, TN for a girl's weekend, so I figured I would start there.

2702 12th Ave. S. Nashville, TN 37204

I love donuts! So obviously that was our top priority for breakfast. The donuts at Five Daughter's Bakery didn't disappoint. I ordered the King Kong (maple bacon), Vanilla Cream, Maple Glaze, and the Vanilla Sugar. I honestly couldn't pick a favorite. They were all SO good! Located in a quaint little house this was a sweet little treat, that may have been the highlight of our trip!

Bar Taco is a favorite for our family, whether it is for Sunday Brunch or a night out. We usually go in Atlanta but I noticed they just opened one in Nashville so we had to eat there. The menu is so fun and definitely shareable. I don't think there is anything on the menu that we haven't tried at least once. But my favorites would have to be the fresh made guacamole, duck, pork belly, and chorizo tacos, and of course the Mexican street corn. If your eating gluten free this is the place for you. I think there are only 5-6 items on the menu that aren't gluten free. Another plus, all drinks are made with fresh ingredients, no sugary mixers for that delicious margarita.

If dining with kids, make sure you go out before 6:00 pm or it may be a little much for your little ones. Another tip, let the wait staff know if you are celebrating a birthday, you may end up with some gelato (on the house). Either way Bar Taco is definitely a treat and really inexpensive too!

We stopped at Fido for an afternoon pick-me-up. It is rumored to be a favorite hotspot of Taylor Swift. Obviously we had to check it out. I ordered the Local Latte, which is made with cinnamon and local honey. Y'all it is out of this world! I also ordered the Hangover Bagel Sandwich, it is your choice of bagel with cream cheese and lots of bacon. Sounds like the perfect hangover cure or just an afternoon snack before hitting the town for a night out!

I know this is another chain, but I can't resist the cute marketing and fun that comes when you order a Sprinkles Cupcake. While going into the store is easier and you can pay with cash, the cupcake ATM is where its at! The pure happiness that ensues as your cupcake is lifted up to a window for you to grab is just so cool. If you haven't been to one, drop everything your doing and head to Nashville now! Our favorite flavors are the sprinkles, red velvet, and chocolate marshmallow. They also offer doggy cupcakes and gluten free options. If you want ice cream with your cupcake, they have that too!

I hope this Nashville restaurant guide has given you a little travel bug. If you have any questions or have any other recommendations for good eats, please send them my way!

Italian Sausage with Peppers & Onions

Italian sausage with peppers and onions is such an easy week night meal. Just be sure to make plenty, the whole family will be back for seconds! Adding the garlic French bread will make it over the top and more luxurious without breaking the bank. In this recipe, I use the frozen garlic bread but you can certainty make your own. Hope you enjoy this as much as my family does. Even my two year old loves it!

Italian Sausage with Peppers & Onions

1 package Italian sausage links
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 yellow onion
2 bell peppers, (any color will work)
1/4 cup white wine
1 loaf of garlic French bread*
1 tablespoon parsley, optional

Directions:
  • In a skillet, cook Italian sausage according to package directions or boil until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • While sausage links are cooking, add olive oil into an additional sauté pan and cook onions and pepper until almost tender. Season with salt and pepper, if needed. Add in white wine and reduce. Chop parsley and add in the last few minutes of cooking.
  • While sausage links, peppers and onions are cooking, throw the frozen garlic bread in the oven and bake according to packaged directions.
  • Once everything is finished cooking, its assembly time. Cut bread into slices and top with sausage, peppers, and onions. Garnish with parsley. Enjoy!
*I use the Pepperridge Farms Frozen Crusty Garlic Bread.
